Day 1

Fly into Phoenix

Arrive in Phoenix, the sun-drenched heart of Arizona. After picking up your rental car at Sky Harbor International Airport, get ready to explore the vibrant city. For a fun and family-friendly start, head to the Desert Botanical Garden, where kids can marvel at the desert’s unique plant life and learn about the local ecosystem. In the evening, take a stroll through Old Town Scottsdale, where you’ll find charming shops and casual dining spots perfect for a family dinner. Spend the night in Phoenix, resting up for the road ahead.

Phoenix – Wickenburg (68 miles)

Hit the road and make your way to Wickenburg, a small town with a rich Western heritage, just 1.5 hours north of Phoenix. The drive itself offers beautiful desert vistas, and Wickenburg's welcoming charm is perfect for families. Check into the Kay El Bar Guest Ranch, where your family can experience ranch life. Horseback riding, nature walks, and cowboy storytelling by the campfire are all great activities that will delight both kids and adults. This is a relaxed, hands-on experience where your family can unwind in the beautiful Arizona desert. Overnight here for three nights.

Day 3 – Day 4

Wickenburg

Spend the day immersed in the Old West lifestyle with all your included activities such as fat tire e-biking, clay pigeon shooting and target shooting, or simply relaxing in the swimming pool.

Alternatively, head out to Wickenburg with several family-friendly spots to visit, including the Wickenburg Historical Society Museum, where kids can explore local history and learn about the town’s Wild West past. If your family enjoys outdoor activities, consider a scenic hike or a visit to nearby Vulture Mine, an old gold mining site with a fascinating history. Afterward, head back to the ranch for some downtime by the firepit or perhaps a sunset ride. The slower pace here is perfect for families looking to reconnect with nature.

Wickenburg – Sedona – Flagstaff (155 miles)

Take a walk along Historic Route 66 in Kingman and explore its charming shops and cafes. Kingman is small but packed with Route 66 charm. Spend the night in this lively, historic town.

Upon arrival, treat the family to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which takes you up to the top of Mount San Jacinto, where you can enjoy panoramic views and cool mountain air. Palm Springs is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, with options for exploring desert landscapes at Indian Canyons. Spend two nights in Palm Springs, soaking in the desert charm.

Afterward, continue your 2-hour drive through scenic desert roads, entering the excitement of California’s largest city. Start your LA adventure with a trip to Santa Monica Pier where Route 66 officially ends! Kids can enjoy amusement park rides, arcade games, and a stroll along the beach. For a quirky vibe, check out Venice Beach, filled with street performers and unique shops. Fly home

On your final day, take in any remaining sights, perhaps visiting LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) or spending a bit more time in Griffith Park before returning your rental car.
