The golden, gorgeous beaches of Santa Monica are picture perfect. Combine this with San Diego - California's archetypal destination, with its fantastic climate, laid-back vibe and beautiful beaches. There's lots to do in a variety of different neighbourhoods from chic Coronado to stunning La Jolla.

Days 1 to 4

Fly to Los Angeles, pick up your hire car and make the short drive to Santa Monica. Enjoy a few days on the blissful beaches of this vibrant resort, soaking up the sunshine, enjoying the surf and exploring the fun bars & restaurants. You can rent a bike to explore the promenade from Pacific Park to Muscle Beach - don't forget to wear your sunglasses so that you can indulge in some people-watching along the way.

Overnight: Santa Monica, 4 nights

Day 4 to 7

It's about a two and a half hour drive from Santa Monica south to San Diego, but take your time and perhaps stop off for lunch in LA or at a beach resort further down the coast such as the surfers paradise Huntingdon Beach. Then enjoy three or more days in fabulous San Diego. Laze on the beach, enjoy some watersports, hire a bike or just people-watch in a laid-back restaurant. There are over thirty beaches to choose from so you'll be spoilt for choice!

Fly home today after your Californian Dream
