That said, we thoroughly recommend getting out and seeing Sanibel on two wheels. Local rental companies can drop off bikes to the Sanibel Island Beach Resort, and you can pedal around the island at your leisure. May we suggest cycling down to the Sanibel Island Lighthouse – a famous local landmark close to a fishing pier and the beach, with views of Fort Myers Beach to the south, only 15 minutes cycle ride from the hotel.
Also within easy cycling distance from the Sanibel Island Beach Resort, you'll discover the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. It is world famous for spectacular migratory bird populations and is a fabulous spot to see some exciting wildlife. Don't forget your binoculars!
